The Gun behid the Woman: Best crochet hook for amigurumi..:)

When I started crocheting on summer 2009, I never thought about the 'quality' of crochet hook that I used.
I used the most common crochet hook that available in departement store ( I bought in Big W). At that time I even didnot know where craft shop or wool shop was...:P. This is my first crochet hook.

Then  I made dolls intensively in summer 2010, I was so absorbed in crocheting. My preparation on my first dolls to be in market. The zoo series. I made more than 20 finger puppets. My index finger was hurt and scratched. I noticed the number craved on the hook made my finger scratch. And the thin pipe for holding is not ergonomic. I tried to find another hook with good holder. I found this in department store:

But it was broken on the first doll I made.

I hold the hook like hold a pen. Somepeople use knife style to hold crochet hook.
The distance from the tip of this blue hook to the handle is longer compared the later hook that I use.

Then I found the hook on one of the blog they use the ergonomic crochet hook. Clover. I bought via e-bay store.  I made again many dolls intensively...It does not hurt and scrath on my hand. It has better grip.

Then I tried again the bamboo grip ( same design with clover) and alumunium tip. It has good handle, but  the alumunium tip is not as smooth as clover hook when grap the yarn. But again the problem arouse, tip was detached from the handle. It was able to be fixed by using PVA glue but not for longer time.

So far the clover hook is the best crochet hook that I ever used. So If you want to start crochet amigurumi, you will be no regret investing in good quality hook...:). Happy crocheting!

Bunny's growing pains...:)

This photo was taken on August 2010. Look at the bunny and my daughter...
I made this bunny based on the pattern from Deb Ritchey : One skein bunny http://www.caron.com/projects/op/op_bunny.html

It was long project that I need 3 ball of 100 gram yarn.  It was made when I didnot know which one
was wrongside and right side of amigurumi.

Two weeks a go I found this pattern in ravelry : http://gosyo.co.jp/english/pattern/eHTML/ePDF/1004/amicomo3-34_Amigurumi_Bear.pdf
This pattern suggests to use two strand of yarn but I made it in one strand make smaller result.
The size is perfect as I expected.

The first bunny is the purple one. Being curious about the face, I made the face again to make it similar to big one.
Then this is the Mommy with 2 little bunnies..:). The bunnies will meet you on Sunday,
the Mommy stays at home as my milistone of making amigurumi...:)

The cat is ready...:)

Look at the white cat...:). Finally it is ready...!!!
Do you know the blue bunny who is sitting behind the cat?
I finally made the small version of my amigurumi that I made a year a ago for my daughter.
It made of only 100gram of yarn comparing the blue bunny that almost 300 grams.
I will update the photo later...:)

Got to think about it...." Think..think..think", said Pooh.

Made IN Australia with Love..:)

Less than 2 weeks to go!
I will be back to my home country for a family matter.
It is not easy to find something that "made in Australia" for gift and I dont want to buy the one in Victoria Market like last year either.
That made me decide why not it is made by me IN Australia...The yarn all made in Australia at least...:).
It will be good because it is small and light to slip in the suitcase...:)

Since there are nephews and nice...still children under 7YO...:).
And for my friend, I like to post my amigurumi in my facebook, they commented that they like some of my dolls...One of my friend want to collect elepants, want flowers for headband ( tooo hot for a beanie), etc. They havent known I have a blog yet so why not give them surprise......:)

A bunch of love from OZ

I want to make a baby mobile or baby rattle for the new born babies of my brother.
Still 3 dolls to make...If it is not enough time I will make it 'ON the GO' project on the planes...
So handy with one crochet hook and one skein of yarn.
